Biography


John Bellamy is a composer, producer and sound designer working in Sydney, Australia. He specialises in composing for musical theatre, film soundtracks and commercial art.  John is himself, an accomplished violist, having played with the ABIA award winning Gloriette String Quartet since 2003.john bellamy music composer picture

John has studied composition with Daniel Blinkhorn, Scott Saunders and Simone East,and Music Production with Greg White and Drew Crawford

John is currently enrolled in a BMus. (Composition and Production), at the Australian Institute of Music (AIM). He has composed music for several AIM productions, including the sound design and score for the AADA production, ‘Women of Troy’ directed by Andrew Davidson. John recently composed the opening titles for NITV's Momentum.

Other highlights of John's recent time at AIM saw the world premiere of John’s solo piano work, ‘Travelling Back’, performed by Diego Idarraga, and recorded by Wojciech Wisniewski.  He also composed music for a theatrical trailer for the Sydney China Film Festival.

Noted for his broad repertoire, John has composed scores for, ‘Roma’s Tomatoes’, directed by Danielle Lauren and ‘Painting Lewis Morley’s Picture’, directed by Joshua Marks, as well as many other short films and corporate videos.

John loves to collaborate with other artists from different disciplines and is currently in post-production for a short movie musical, ‘Estelle’s Etoiles’, directed by Danielle Lauren, and pre-production for a new stage musical.

John has previously studied music at Eora TAFE gaining the prestigious State Medal for Music Certificate IV. He also graduated from Macquarie University with a Bachelor of Arts - majoring in Communications, Film, Drama and English.  While at university, John directed the award-winning documentary, ‘Feral’, Jennifer Painter’s acclaimed, ‘When Are We Going to Manly?’ for the stage and the performance art spectacular, ‘Awake!’.

John has been an active musician since an early age, studying piano, voice, violin, viola, pipe organ and guitar.  He continues to seek creatively inspiring
and commercially successful, collaborative experiences.
